As a vital member of our Pre-Construction team, you’ll take ownership of the full estimating lifecycle, from initial lead to the submitted final bid/proposal, for a diverse range of projects valued up to and beyond 20M, employing various delivery methods like stipulated sum, cost-plus, construction management, and design-build.

WHAT YOU WILL DO HERE:

Projects

  • In this pivotal Senior Estimator role, you will take full ownership of the Pre-Construction Phase for your designated projects, expertly navigating RFPs, developing comprehensive estimates that evolve with the project’s design, and ensuring the delivery of winning tender submissions. Your meticulous approach will involve a thorough review and understanding of all project documents, including drawings, schedules, and specifications. You will be a key contributor by providing concise and impactful value engineering insights to the project team throughout the estimating process, and your aptitude for identifying and clearly communicating project discrepancies will be essential.
  • Leveraging the power of DESTINI Estimator, you will execute highly detailed quantity takeoffs for all scopes of work, including those performed by subcontractors, and accurately compile takeoffs for self-performed tasks. A solid grasp of carpentry labor and typical equipment productivity will be highly advantageous.
  • You will be responsible for soliciting and rigorously reviewing subcontractor and supplier quotations for completeness, while actively cultivating and maintaining strong, long-term relationships with both current and prospective partners.
  • Additionally, you will develop preliminary construction schedules and play a leading role in all facets of project meetings, including associated administrative tasks. You will also attend site meetings as necessary and provide crucial support to the project team in managing change orders.

Internal

  • Proactively develop and refine pre-construction workflows and estimate tools, taking the lead in creating and enhancing internal worksheets and templates to streamline processes.
  • Contribute your analytical expertise to evaluate existing strategies and implement innovative approaches that ensure our bids are consistently competitive and delivered on schedule.
  • Actively build and nurture strong, collaborative relationships with our valued network of clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to our long-term success by maintaining a detailed and up-to-date database of vendors and historical cost data, a vital resource for future estimating.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE TEAM:

  • Five to ten years of proven success in estimating, specializing in residential and commercial construction, preferably with a general contracting background.
  • Relevant post-secondary qualifications, including a degree, diploma, or certification in construction estimating, quantity surveying, or engineering, or a related field. Equivalent significant experience in the construction industry will also be considered.
  • Extensive expertise in project tendering and construction procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of residential and commercial construction practices and industry dynamics.
  • A deep understanding of the construction market, various trades, materials, and subcontractor management.
  • Experience with software applications such as Bluebeam, Destini Estimator (or similar estimating software), Excel, and Smartsheet is advantageous, with familiarity with Spectrum software being highly preferred.
